Help me stock a 125

I have to disagree with the african suggestion. For one, you will need to spend a lot of money just to stock the tank with fish. Yes they are colorful and pretty but not overly personable. Kids seem more impressed with a single large colorful fish then a bunch of little fish. At least that has been my experience. Depending upon what size tank you get I would go with either oscars or midevils. Both are cheap, colorfull, get large, have great personality, eat anything, and have no special water requirements.

some africans are small, but there are a good few that are monster themselves.... and quite the predator. Cyphotilapia(frontosa) and the Malawi Eye Biter are two off the top my head.

Yes, but he said he had $300 to spend. How will he get a tank and everything he needs with it and still be able to stock it with expensive fish such as Frontosa's?

I will try to coax a few hundred dollars out of the school. My friend is in charge of a lot of student comittees so he may be able to help me out. What do you guys think about me doing a school of exodons? That would be a pretty cool tank.

if you want to go peaceful cichlids....... eartheaters (geophagus/stanoperca/acarichthys) ftw, colorful and when larger they have amazing fins (as long as they are not kept with fin nippers)..........

ummmmm more agressive/single fish i would agree with a larger green terror.

I was working under the assumption that he would be spending more money than he said he had :grinno: Teachers are good at finding 'resources'.:D

oh yeah, you probably don't want a jumpy fish, so maybe an oscar or something that wont be scared of kids tapping on the glass. Africans are very jumpy, esp. lake Tanganyikan cichlids. An aro would go great, but they're quite expensive, you can try to get a good one here on MFK.
