Hmmmmm...I'm still stumped. For now it looks male to me but I'm no expert.

I'm curious to know if this is a male/female also since I'm trying to do some sexing of my umbee as well.

Im thinking male. those pics might not be showing off the colors. does he have blue coloration all through his body like in the pic showing it below the dorsal. the fins are building trailers. and there isnt any spot on the dorsal. so i wanna go with male. i hard a hard time getting pics of my umbee that showed his color.

Yea I was going with the trailers too for the male.

BUMP...

If any part of the dorsal blackens (stress or fighting behavior) does that mean the Umbee is a female? It's just something I heard.

Im gonna say yes, it would be female. now im not an expert with umbees so i might be corrected on this. ive seen some cases where in certian lighting or temperment males and females can sometimes look like the opposite sex and usually when its not at the top of the food chain.

females dont have as much spotting in the face, and are usually drab color. what other fish is it with and what size tank? if you have other fish that might pose a threat this guy will color up to challange whether male or female. and you might get a better idea of sex. im still gonna go with male.
