When I got home from school today my tank was so cloudy, I couldn't see more than a few inches into the tank, I admit I haven't done a wc in a lot longer than I'd like, but I just did like an 85% one.

My tank was fine this morning, but when I came home, BAM.

The tank still looks cloudy, but my fish are MUCH more active than they were before, probably due to the alleviation from pretty high nitrates. No fish are dead or anything, I rinsed out my mech. media, switched out my purigen completely and gravel vac'd.

I think the problem had to do with my old purigen being used up and maybe leaching back into the tank, but I'm not sure.

Please someone help me by letting me know why/how this could have happened and what I can do to fix it.

i just googled the problem, it could be a bacterial bloom, but how did it happen so fast and why is it still around?

You cleaned too good

that's a massive water change, i hope you treated properly. it doesn't explain your water being cloudy but that big a water change can cause a mini cycle

i only did that wc b/c i hadn't done one in a while and the water looked milky af, I understand it's not the best idea to do one over 50%, but I felt it was necessary, I guess I was wrong because the tank is still cloudy

and wat did you learn?
