Hey guys i was just wondering if anyone cud suggest how i cud move my fat 40''++ RTC out of my pond into a temporary fibreglass container. The reason is that my mum is doubling the size of my pond to accomadate my growing army of fish. therefore they will need to be out for at least 2 months. IM afraid of injuring my RTC cause of its spikes and stuff. any suggestions???

is he used to human contact??
if he is you might be able to get in with him and noodle him out or get under him and lift him out.

go with the blanket it would be pricey to sedate the whole pond

Don't know that you have access to it but a muskie cradle works great for my big hybrid. I'd say you'll definitely have to lower the water to where they are litterally on their bellies. Some cotton sheets sounds good or a large pillow case. You'll need two people at least for a rtc that size. I can get my hybrid solo, but it's a pain, and when he thrashes my whole body moves side to side and I do powerlifting tournements on the side lol. Fish plus initial water means mega weight. THis would be a good time to weigh your fish also if you know someone with digital fishing scales you could borrow. Coax them into the pillow case and then weigh them lol, or just get them into the fiber pond. My big boy I simply put pillow case or cradle in with him, and just push him into it. Wish I had a mom that would double my pond lol. Good luck with the move, and yes we require pics of the whole process.

wow thanks so much for the advice...the blanket definitely sounds like a great idea...ill give that a try! and yeh im also doubling my pond cause i just bought a pair or arapaimas! any excuse for a bigger fish pond :p

the scariest part about moving big catfish wud probably be the side spikes which can be freaking painful...how do u avoid those? and dont the spikes shred thru pillow cases or blankets...the last time i moved them to this pond they broke giant nets that were specially made to catch them..x_X

oh and yes pictures will be in the photos lounge wen construction takes place...the pond builders r already drawing up plans..they claim it shud not be more than a 2 month process...but these people always take longer than they say....the measurements shud be approximately 30 ft by 8 ft by 5 ft deep...might be slightly smaller if he wants to make the filter much larger...
