I am really worried about my 15 inch arowana and I'm thinking maybe someone with a little more arowana experience may be able to help me out. He has begun to swim in tight circles every once in a while, speeding up every rotation...and after a few rotations he just flips out. He is in a 150 gallon (temporary, don't worry). I tested the water and found that my nitrate levels were pretty high (about 35 ppm). I did a 25% water change yesterday and another 25% change today, but my nitrate levels are still at 25 ppm and he is still doing it. Can someone please tell me what might be wrong?? Should I do more water changes?? Maybe add salt?? HELP!!

i would add salt.

is he eating? What other fish are with him?

Yes, he is still eating at least. He is in with three black ghost knife fish that he never comes into contact with and a small leopard pleco. I've had him since he was only 2 inches long and he has never acted like this before. What will the salt do?? How much should I add??

Yeah thats a preaty good possibility. But whats the decor and pH levels?

Its a pretty bare tank...just a plastic skull, some rocks, and gravel. The tank is filtered with a Cascade 1200 canister filter that I actually just added last weekend (possible cause?), and a Penguin Bio-wheel 350 hang on tank filter. I make sure to always keep the ph at 6.5.

You might want to raise your pH a little, you try to get your pH as close to neutral as you can. But I really doubt the filter would make any diffrence.

I've noticed a couple times he has sucked some air in from above the surface of the water. I'm thinking maybe its just the bad water quality?? It is a little cloudy. I've done a total of 50% water change in the past two days...will it hurt to do another 25% tomorrow to get my nitrate levels below 20??
