HELP! My black aro is sick I think!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Melafix is anti bacterial, what you look to have is fungal so you should be using pimafix. I use mela and pimafix both, but as preventatives on open wounds. Never had much success with pimafix treating fungus. I have also has success with the jungle tabs, this was with other fish and not arowana though.

I wonder is your Black aro get the rot fins...?

My black aro just cure from the fin rot...now the fins had recoverd 70%.
When starting the treatment:

But in his situation, last time he never lost his appetite at all and stil eat like pig although his fin stil continue to "disappear".What i do is use Melafix and do 40-50% water changing every 2-3 days. And mainly I fed him with foodsticks and crikrets.

When you doing the 50% water changing, remember do not load the new water into the tank with one shot (or quickly), this might kill your aro...Load the water slowly to prevent the temp & Ph change fast.

Its only his top fin and his pectoral fins that seem to be a bit frayed. Its almost like his top fin is all stuck together. I did a big water change, added salt, and added melafix and did another small water change yesterday. He seems to be doing ok. He isn't letting his tail fall anymore, but he seems to be over-active when the lights go off. Sort of like he is trying to get away from something.

more pics. really hard to get a good shot of his fins and the kinda pale spots on his back cuz of my lighting...

BTW, I'm not ignoring the advice on using pimafix and jungle tabs, I'm just giving it a couple more days to see if it is actually needed. He really isn't that bad off so I'm thinking I still have a couple more days at least before the point of no return.

Anybody else have any ideas??

Good to see that he looks as if he is getting better

Yeah, thanks. He is swimming with a little more umpf than he was last night. The discolored spots on his back are what really worry me though and I don't think they grew but they are def still there.
