o.k i set up a saltwater tank with crushed coral as substrate and liverock.everything was fine.i added a 6 line.2 clowns, atl.blue tang etc.they were all fine eating and everything.a few days later they started acting a little weird like getting this white film on them and stuff.they all died...............except starfish, shrimp, crabs, snails.now i went to my lfs and they told me i need a heater because they need a set water temperature.i bought one along with a damsel fish.that was monday.today i come home to a dead damsel.i also had treated the tank with mystess or something like that from microbe-lift incase it was a fungus or something.all my water is fine.i have high p.h.almost zero nitra, nitri, and ammonia.my salt was a tad bit high but nothing crazy.what can it be please help................give me a clue.if not its going to be taken apart and im going to stick to what i know....fresh water

a white film sounds like there slime coat was coming off was the salinity too high or drop or rise unexpectedly, how old was tank and when did u add the fish? What was your temp. were the fish healthy looking at the LFS

theres a h.o.b filter a aqua-clear 110.and i do now have a marineland heater for a a 55 gallon aquarium set at 78 degrees.the salinity in my tank is a drop high.its a line over the good zone on the meter.but even the new fish died.this is my first attempt at keeping a marine aquarium.and so far its driving me nuts.its been set up for about a month now.all the fish were looking fine then all of a sudden they started looking weird and acting weird.they all died........so i bought the heater and treated the tank with an antifungus treatment.i bought a little fish and came him to him dead.everything is fine in the tank.crabs, shrimp, sea stars etc.... but the fish just die

sounds like Oodinium, a parasite simliar to ich but spreads much more rapidly. It will not look as uniform as ich rather what you are desribing more like a slime or velvet. Your results are fairly typical losing all your fish, unless it is diagnosed early it can wipe out fish populations. Since you have live rock you dont want to medicate with copper so I would tell you to raise your temp alittle and lower your salinity down around .015 which will safe for your inverts but very hard on the parasite. Also think about getting a UV filter and maybe a quaratine tank in the future to house new fish before going into your main tank. I would not ad any new fish for about two weeks and be very slow and careful when you do. Good luck.

Here is an article about it

MATTCB Said it all.

Except what I think to be the most important piece of advice. Research. Start reading everything you can on the internet. Let your tank sit empty for far longer than you want to. It will pay off.

No NO No NOooo.

Dude what are you doing?

Parasites live in all tanks. Its bad conditions that bring them out and cause outbreaks... For instance cancer is in all our bodies and has the potential to outbreak killing us. You didn't have a heater or correct salinity. That cause an outbreak.

Did you even cycle the tank? It sounds like you put your fish in the middle of a cycle and the amonia spikes and nitrite spikes killed them

Why does everyone always jump to bacteria and diseaseas..... they live in the water no matter what. Its how you control them is key.

You need to get a water test and most likely re cycle your tank. You should also purchase a book to know how to properly set up an aquarium because if you dont know you need a heater you are very wrong. Do you even have a skimmer?

What size tank?

What are the water test results?

People you need to identify the problem not the outbreak, who cares if ich or other things killed the fish they where brought upon by other things.

AND DONT MEDICATE YOUR TANKS. Medication kills fish whether you believe it or not. Proper care of an aquarium and knowing what your doing can be the best thing you can ever do for a sick fish. A fish doesn't get sick in a clean cycled well cared for tank.

probably the best advice here by far.

Do you think about what you are going to say before you say it? Someone else here might need to do a little research.
