help my friend the Goatfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Fishing rod and reel. Get the bait in front of the goat fish, get it hooked, whip it out. Might catch some others in the process, but you'll get it eventually. That's why its called fishing, not catching :)

Sounds like catching the thing is going to be harder then getting the ring off tough.

can they not just put some food in the tank then sweep loads of fish out and seperate the goat fish that way ?

they are going to have to catch it. theres no other way.

what i would do is, go to a local firehouse and talk to the paramedics (I was once a paramedic) or talk to EMT's -hell even your local ER room. see if you can get them to get you a ringcutter. its a device used to cut wedding rings and stuff off of victims fingers when you have to during an emergency.

if they wont get it for you, to get some bolt cutters or tin snips.. something that will cut through the ring.

either way, they are going to have to catch the fish, hold it down and cut the ring, then bend it to get it off.

btw, how did the ring end up in the fishtank? lol just curious....:nilly:

the aquarium in CI has a Yellow Goatfish that somehow got a metal ring around it's neck! I've been trying to suggest ways to get it off, but they cant catch the darn thing. Help please before it gets even more embedded:(

What exhibit? Glover's Reef in oceanic if the tank is even close to your dimensions. (I don't know the dimmensions off hand, but I know the tank is about 120,000g.) Just bring it to the attention of a docent and instruct him/her to tell Kim (the VC) who can then radio it in to animal husbandry.

It's the aquarium- people throw crap into the tanks because they think it's funny. When I was working one day, they had to call a keeper to get a sea lion to retrieve a bottle of formula that a toddler threw in.

sounds to me like this fish is SOL because I know even in small saltwater tanks its almost impossible to catch fish with rock and everything else in there try to catch him at night when hes 'sleeping' and you are less visible.

That's it. The docents pointed it out to us. They just cant catch him. They've gone down with nets but just cant get him, Goatfish are too fast. And theyre not gonna use hook and line, theyre just againt it. If I get alot of ideas I'll go take the posts and email to the aquarium.
