btw, how did the ring end up in the fishtank? lol just curious....:nilly:
The Glovers Reef exhibit has an outdoor viewing thing thats on top of the building. Some idiot threw it in, or maybe it was in the huge fake corals, in the sand, or possibly was already on the fish and whoever stocked the tank didn't check it out.
This guys pretty big for a Goatfish so I don't think its gonna get so embedded that it decapitates him, but it is very embedded so it cant feel to good.

oh when i have been night diving before i have used my light (very bright) and "spotlight" the fish and they freeze and just sink to the bottom...they seem stunned like a deer in headlights and you can go up and touch them...but that is with fw fish.

they are going to have to catch it. theres no other way.

what i would do is, go to a local firehouse and talk to the paramedics (I was once a paramedic) or talk to EMT's -hell even your local ER room. see if you can get them to get you a ringcutter. its a device used to cut wedding rings and stuff off of victims fingers when you have to during an emergency.

if they wont get it for you, to get some bolt cutters or tin snips.. something that will cut through the ring.

either way, they are going to have to catch the fish, hold it down and cut the ring, then bend it to get it off.
I was a Firefighter in the late 70's early 80's...they'd have one at every station...there are alot of places that sell ring cutters... they need to get one to have.
I'm sure if they had a way to get it off, (ring cutter) they'd find a way to capture it...bait a fish trap...dive for it w/ a bait trap, something...anyway here is a ring cutter...

exactly! id try to catch the lil guy at night-they should know his spot where he likes to sleep. then ring cut that sucker off...

Dangle a net in the tank and feed over it until the fish get used to the net. Then just wait till the goatfish is over it and lift up. If you can't get the net to move thorough the water fast enough get a different net which has a more open weave.

Catching it is out of the question unless they send in a diver to do tank maintenance anyway. Not worth it to send a diver for a single goatfish when the other exhibits need work.
