HELP My Rays!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nah. I dropped 6 grams of safe in 160g but still reading green on ammonia. Should I add more or will it just continue to test high?

Both Prime & Safe will give you a false positive reading when using most basic testing kits. You need to test for "free" ammonia, not total ammonia which includes both free (NH3) and ionic (NH4+) ammonia. I would suggest that you go to your LFS and get one of these. http://www.seachem.com/Products/product_pages/AmmoniaAlert.html

Alrighty, she held on as long as possible but my 15 inch 6yr old
momma retic passed today, making for death #7. I have one ray left in my possession but only because she is sooo big that no one else locally can temporarily house her. This 17 inch hybrid still looks good but that may just be a matter of time...

I dropped the pups off at a buddy's. He is a quality keeper but this is his first time with rays. He hasn't reported any deaths yet so I assume they are good. Will be dropping blackworms off soon

Should I treat my remaining female for bacterial infection. She has a lil red around her mouth and sheds her slime coat but my main concern is the fact that she sat next to 7 rays as they died. My heart is broke, as well as my pocket book, so I really can't deal with anymore losses...
Side note to all the experts and pros chiming in here, Thank you so very much! Your knowledge and assistance is invaluable. The fact that you take time out of your busy schedules to educate the less knowledgeable is what really makes this site successful. You are appreciated.

Really sorry to hear that.

I'm so sorry for your losses. this is heartbreaking. I really feel for you.

This also has me reconsidering the massive % of water I change in my tanks without drips. at 70-90% WC, if this happened to one of my water supplies I would be exposing massive contaminates. Was the TDS/PPM of your water source unusually high?
