What is normal? it should be 0 what is it actual reading and what are your other parameters? You should test them all. I personaly think this is from Ammonia in your water. I have seen this happen on weak and stressed out pups. We had a small ammonia spike from some left over food that spoiled and and we saw these signs. I dont think has anything to do with parasites. Raise temp to 86-88 add salt two teaspoons per 10 gallons. Ammonia is known to burn the disk of rays so thats my best educated assumption.

I used basic ammonia testing kit and it read as 0, is there a better and more accurate equiment that i should buy for a better test? Thanks

Thats what i thought, may be i should buy a proper testing kit and run the test again, coz apart from ammonia, i have no idea what caused the problem:confused:

test kits are mostly the same

if your filters are good and the tank is cycled chances are you only get nitrates which dont hurt rays

how long has the ray been in the tank ?

Filters are good for the tank, currently running 2 external filters both running at 1500L per hour and cycled more than 6 months, 1 filter is filled with hi-quality bio rings and the other filled with sponge and little carbon. The ray has been in the tank for more than a month and this sickness started 2 days ago.

Nitrates dont hurt ray?

nitrates wont really hurt the ray unless in real excessive numbers.... nitrite can hurt a ray

This is what I call disk rot and normaly is caused deu to bad watter. Your biggest problem is your botom supstrate much to big grinds. All kinds of durt can get in their and rots in their. Also to heavy for the ray to blow in their. Normally when you do a watter change and ad some salt it will stabilize. If your amonia is to high you would see red spots on the disk botom.
