for the benefit of our friends here in MFK you wouldnt mind if I answer you in english. . . I want to train him to eat any kind of pellet possible although i have practically unlimited supply of crickets and roaches that i personally breed (I'm also into arachnoculture) i want to feed him all kinds of pellets to ensure nutrition variety. . . my theory is if I succeed in training him to eat flowerhorn pellets then all other pellets/feeders would be easily accepted by my aro. . . so I'm forcing him to eat this particular pellet so that in the future I would'nt have any problem regarding food availability since he would readily take any food I'll give him. . . so as much as possible I wouldn't give him any carnivore pellets. . . I know its possible because a friend of mine trained his asian aro to eat comercially available "tilapia" feeds by accident. . . since then he never got any problem giving his asian food because comercial feeds are readily available in any farm shops here in the philippines. . .

If you're feeding him sinking pellets then it would be hard for him to be trained to eat those pellets.I'm training my arowana to feed pellets but I use floating pellets since they're easy to be catch by the aro,but still, my aro still spits it out.So I feed him with superworms instead of pellets cause superworm contains high protein/calcium(right?).As for the nutritional values, I feed my superworms with apples, cabbages, letus, fruit peelings potato peels to gut load them with vitamins/ nutritions and they're ready to be served to my aro.

I've had my jar 18" for about 2 weeks. I haven't seen him eat yet. I put feeder gold fish in the tank and they disappear over night and he hasn' died yet. I' trying to switch him to beef heart by starving him. He acts interested, not going for it yet. I've had my black aro 14" for a week and he eat beef heart yesterday.

yeah i'm tryin to feed sinking pellets to my bichir, but i also feed my jat floating flowerhorn pellets but for no avail. . . /I think i'll still have to starve him a little more. . .

btw in my arachnid keeping I learned that superworms is not a good protein source, superworms are composed only by fat and water, I feed most of my tarantulas and scorpions crickets and roach because it contains high meat to shell ratio plus crickets and roaches are very high in protein but less fat. . . if you wan't I'll teach you how to breed crickets it's cheaper than buying superworms you just have to feed them chicken feed, water and laying trays, the expensive part is the big plastic box from which you raise your baby crickets, crickets mature in less than a month and a single cricket can lay about 100eggs/week. . . if you want to gutload your superworms with high protein diet remove your superworm bedding and replace it with crush dogfood, because dogfood has high concentration of protein. . . then give it apple, potatoes for their moisture needs

well i didn't have any problems giving him fresh foods like beefheart and market prawns but i really want him to eat pellets

I'll try to follow what you've said, but I'm just wondering what the beddings are for?

well some people like their superworms with bedding "kusot" to neutralize the smell i put dog food as my bedding it also serves as food for gutloading my worms with high proteindiet, i only feed superworm to my tarantula's an d scorpions who are about to molt to give them a little boost before they shed their exoskeleton. . . but i don't use superworms as their main . . . when i was just starting in arahnoculture I lost couple tarantulas and scorpion by feeding them superworms. . . one expert hobbyist from the us told me that superworms are not good for my spiders, it's just my theory that superworms are bad for aro. . . but i'm pretty damn sure about the fat contents of superworms. . . i suggest you breed crickets, pretty laborious but worth the effort . . .

by the way its the 7th day hunger strike for my jar I've tried putting pellets this morning he grabs one flowerhorn pellets but eventually spit it out. . . . it a good sign though. . . :D:D:D

Nice, just keep it going till he gives up eating those pellets.BTW, I've been feeding my arowana with tiny sinking pellets lately. It was supposed to be fed to my tiny knife fish but he ate all of them when I got out of his sight :D, but I'll rather keep feeding him live worms. I might try some crickets as well if I go to cartimar next time, because the LFS here only sells kataba, superworms, and goldfishes as feeders.Anyway, good luck on your jardini :headbang2

i am also in the process of teaching my golden jar in eating pellets.. the first week was my most frustrating week so far.. it would swallow the pellet, crush it and spit it.. it was a very tedious job for i had to clean my tank after every "meal".. i feed my jar three times a day by the way.. the second week was a little better.. it would eat half of the pellet but spit the other half.. atleast i achieved a little sense of fulfillment..Ü now, the third week, it would still spit but only a portion of the pellet.. as a result, i no longer have to clean the tank everyday for the spoils would be small enough to enter into my overhead filter.. i am looking forward for next week because hopefully, there would be no leftover..Ü btw, why not try feeding your jar with arowana food? FH food pellets are also for carnivorous fishes but why not give them pellets that are specially made for arowanas? i feed my jar otto premium arowana blend.. i bought it from a lfs here only costs p200.. i know otto is not the best brand but it is the only one i could find in our area.. i am in the process of having HIKARI FOOD STICKS but found none here.. but the good news is, my significant other is working in singapore and she bought me tons of HIKARI products already..Ü also melafix and primafix.. =)

and as for the gutloading of superworms, i only gutload them with carrots.. i've read many articles on carrots are a good source of colors for fishes so i gave it a try and it really works.. too bad i stopped using it because of my tight budget..Ü u see, my jar eats 3 to 5 superworms a day.. if i dont give enough, i theorize it would try to jump out of the aquarium for i would always find water outside the tank.. i fear that if it keeps up, i could wake up someday seeing my jar already outside the tank..Ü so to prevent it from happening, i give him lots of superwoms.. now, back to the story.. i am trying to teach him to eat pellets because of the budget constraint..Ü

and thank you to deadly_elegance for giving me a good info on how to transform your superworm into its adult form.. i already made 1 by the way.. my first batch was composed of 4 superworms.. the first one died of starvation.. the second one, i fed it to our FH because figured it was on a road following the first.. the third is in its molting stage.. covered in a pure white coating.. i dont know what its called and the fourth one is still a superworm but nearing its time to molt.. thank you deadly_elegance!
