HELP oscar pair laid Eggs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Metheylene Blue is added once (As according to my knowledge) just to stop fungus from attacking the eggs. Thats its only purpose. You will want 2 sponge filters running on the tank. Add a slow bubbling air stone next to the eggs to aid as an aeration source. When the eggs hatch, and you have wrigglers, remove the air stone. Keep the 2 sponge filters running. When they start to free swim, about 5+ days after they hatch, feed them baby brine shrimp/cyclops/daphina.

BUMP!

my pair is again will be laying eggs soon.
the only problem i have is when the pair lays the eggs on the floor..
if this happens, what is the best thing to be done?

Just warning you, Don't get upset if they eat there eggs, It's one of their first spawns.

i am well prepared for it.. ill just let the eggs stay for a while. maybe after a day or two. them i'll transfer the eggs into a 10 gal for better egg hatching.

for the past week, i have been observing my pair. the male's organ is already showing and the female has an awfully bulging stomach. it's stomach is a little transparent since it is an albino, so i can see little circles - i think they are eggs. i am expecting a spawn already, but it has been two weeks and all i can see are just their liplocking and other rituals. last night i though that the female will the eggs since its papilae is already showing- so i turned on the lights until the morning. when i woke up and came to see the pair, there was still no improvement and i cant again see the female's papilae.

btw, the pair are both albino. one is a blood red ant the other is a zebra red.
(that's what my friend told me)

BUMP!

the pair laid eggs as i expected yesterday on a piece of ceramic tile!

what i did:

transferred the tile into a bucket using the water from the pond submerging the eggs about 3 inches.

tilted the ceramic tile about 70 dergees and on the lower edge, i placed an airline with an air stone to produce a current- bubbles just about 1 cm from the eggs.

put methylene blue in the bucket until the water is dark blue.

covered the bucket with a peice of glass on top of the bucket.

what i did not do:

i did not put sponge filters in the bucket simply because it wont fit.

i am worried about:

overdosing the eggs with methylene blue. i am not really sure how dark is the dark blue that others were saying.

should i do water changes? i mean, it will be four days so i think the water in the bucket should be changed from time to time right? since i did not put any filter in.

You may want to do 5-10% water changes every day or so becuse some dead eggs will foul the water. If you perform a too large of a water change, the new water will sometimes 'upset' the eggs.

Next time your oscars spawn, just let them be. You'll enjoy the parental activity.

if i change water 10-15% a day, should i again add some methylene blue?

is overdosage of methylene blue harmful?

by the way, i immediately removed the eggs because i am a bit scared of what might happen to the male since the female is going nuts about he male goin near the eggs. i read from some articles from google that if one of the pair is driving the other away from the eggs, it is more likely that he will eat the eggs.

in my exp. just leave everything be, they are spawning because they feel comforatable enough to raise their babies . I know it's hard to do but i suggest leaving well enough alone. If a spawn is not successful, a pair will try again in 10-12 days usually, you will be able to soon predict egg time with alarming accuracy
