Catch him and 'hover' him an inch or two from the surface of the water on his side. Wait until he quits thrashing and calm down.. Then use the python and suck it out of his nose while hes still barely under water.. You might get a little wet, but atleast he wont get torn up like the tweezer idea.
*Edit- The lowering of the tank water and holding him down might be a better idea!

I would imagine it would be hard to put down a fish like that without the right meds. I had a buddy of mine who is a nutritionist get ahold of some clove oil for me, and it just killed my fish.Maybe theres a secret to it?
DeLgAdO said:the thing with clove oil is that ur suppose to only use afew drops and an airstone to spread it around.
you only suppose to keep the fish in their until he is knocked out but still breathing.
once he's out, do the procedure and get the fish into a tank with high oxygenated water with good water flow.
its would be a good idea to place the fish in a current to get the water flowing over its gills to snap it out of sleep.

Here is the problem I believe: my friend, the nutritionist, tells me that real clove oil is actually Illegal in the US. Many of the herbal companies now market 'clove oil' but in actuallity it is 'clove bud oil' which is completely different. I tried 3 different brands and varieties of 'clove oil' and they all didn't work. I followed all the correct steps, and after he started looking 'woozy' but not 'knocked out' i placed him back in FW. Died a few minutes later.. So, either pike cichlids do not like clove oil, or it's really damn hard to find true clove oil. ???
