Help Pacu has gravel stuck in Nostril

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That idea sounds pretty good except for the other pacu in the tank as well as Plecos and 5 oscars... they would freak out ... so i think we will have to take him out and put him in a bucket filled with the aquarium water from his tank and hold him down in there {perhaps in the net} and maybe suck it out of his nose with siphen hose there.. because if something should happen to this guy i do not want to lose every one else in the process and i do not want to be watching them but consentrating on the big guy... who is 21 inches long by 13 inches wide{high} we had to measure him to make sure we have the right size bucket for him to fit into.. .. not looking forward to this... LOL But if it does not come out in the next few days we will definitly do this procedure like it or not...

Sorry i forgot to thank you all for your help..it is very much appreciated and also for the humor... We have to keep laughing no matter what...

I will try to get it ... thanks

The stone fell out by it self.............. :woot: :woot: Thank you for all your help.. i just have to hope it fell out and not sucked in... but i am being positive for now because he is well, eating playing with more stones.. you know his "Old Self"..

sounds like you have a troublesome pacu
my pacu likes to try getting extra food by sucking up rocks and cleaning them off
the best of luck to you with the problem tho

jeez, this is the funniest thread - EVER!

i guess if the clove oil is dangerous, then you should just take a baseball bat and knock him out!

I was very lucky i had to do none of the above..haha

Yes ok sorry I know you were worried about your fish but this was pretty funny stuff. You really might consider going to a sump filter. Everything heater and all could be out of the tank. That's where we are about to go with our Green Spotted Puffers after we noticed one of the plants (sort of looks like an underwater aloe plant and made out of a foam material) had all of these perfectly oval bite marks in it! lol We figured all this out one day when we were doing the weekly water change and there were all these green bits floating on the top, sort of looked like duck weed i guess, and our parakeet was in her cage above the tank so we didn't know if they were little seed sprouts at first. But then we moved on (since this happened to be a major cleaning of the tank) to scrub the plants and I noticed. So the electrical stuff was quickly placed behind a divider. lol.
Oh and about the rock...we keep three koi and I have those nice large tan rocks...yeah you all know what im talking about ...the smooth ones that look like they belong on a river bed. Anyway our largest koi decided to swallow a rock. I saw him on the bottom gasping. He sat there for a couple of days while I observed and tried to figure out what disease was killing him and what I should treat him with. When all of a sudden he came right over to me (he had been hiding in the back of the tank feeling poorly) and faced me head on. There was a large rock in his mouth. So this is what we did...We took a small tank...10 gal. and put only a couple of inches of water in it. And yup we took out the tweezers. We coated our hands with the slime coat stuff so we would hopefully damage him as little as possible. this can be done yes it was a little harder to restrain him, but we were able to. I got a hold of the stone like 3 or 4 times but it wouldn't fit out of his mouth. we tried turning it. I felt like we were trying to turn a breach birth or something. Finally we got it right and gave a good tug and it popped out. We covered him with the slime coat stuff, and returned him to the tank. Within an hour he had stopped huffing and puffing and he was good. He never developed any lesions or disease from the ordeal. I asked my vet who is an exotic vet about helping us with such issues he said "well I've never done it before but...." So he didnt exactly say no either. He also mentioned the clove oil for the koi but never the dose so I'm hesitant to try such a thing.
At least my fish didn't have teeth though! and I'm glad your fish decided to give up the rock on his own. you know sumps can be put together from stuff at wal-mart cheaply. Just a thought.

I have all those same type filters for all my tanks,, they are soooooooo much better.. that was wonderful that you were able to save your gold fish.. and your puffer story ..glad he was okay too.. who says fish don't get into trouble?? You have to watch out for everything.. here is a picture of monster boy, and his girlfriend{she is a little smaller} and thank you for all your information and your reply..i really appreciate you taking the time to tell me, thanks again, and hope all yours behave themselves!
