get a bucket (or other big container) and scoop up the slate carefully without damaging the eggs.
that way the eggs will never be out of the water.
just put an air stone at the base of the slate and it just act like current over the eggs.

i wanted to try something like this, but i was afraid it mite disrupt my young pair, didnt want to piss of mom to much either, she attacks the glass every time i walk by lol

definitely would disrupt them, but they'd spawn again in all likelihood.
unless theyre both female...and even then...LOL

Congratz on the spawn. Truthfully your going to have a few more chances to get it together. Channa gave you some good advice. Your best bet is to start reading up now if you want to rear the fry. Your Cichla will give you another chance and soon hopefully. Your best bet is to start with searching all old breeding threads by Tounge if I can find the thread where he listed all successful breeding write ups I will post the link here for you. If you have an extra seperate tank I would set it up now and get it cycled. Of course the easiest way is to try this method of retreiving the eggs ASAP and use the Tummbler or Air Rotation. Now that you have some time you can look into making a tummbler for your next spawn. Good Luck.

You can start reading here and keep following Tounges threads.

Here is another link that will keep you busy for a while. Take notes go to Tounges post and get some coffee. Your going to need it.

thanks for the comments and advice everyone, i will definitly have to take another look at tongue's thread

when i move at the beginning of next month im gonna just buy 3 tumblers off of aquabid and through up a 20, or a 40

is it true i can just use salt instead of whatever chems ppl use for keeping the eggs fungus free? if thats correct then i dont think i will have to many problems except for actually getting the eggs away from mom lol

one more ?...... what the best way to get the eggs off the rock when there adhesive?

so apparently i was wrong, i didnt think anything would come of this spawn considering my situation right now, and it looked like she was protecting dead eggs last time i looked, so i went on with business as usual, turned on the lights yesterday morning and that was the only time i even looked at the tank until now, i dont really look when i turn off the lights. also i skip a day of feeding once a week and yesterday was that day. today when i go in to feed them i see a few swarms of little tiny itty bitty free swimmers, so of course i then begin to freak out, luckily i had already covered 2 of the 3 intakes, uncovered one being on the opposite side of the tank, so anyway i managed to scoop up at least a 100, and there's at least another 50 in the tank in the plants and in the gravel, man am i kicking myself in the ass for not looking last night, i figure what i found today is just the leftovers from last nights apparent massacre, given my orino and suncats bellys are full, lol

the female is an amazing parent though ill tell you that, this is only her second spawn and shes only 13 inches, and shes protecting the crap outa the ones that stay by her, i had to stop and just accept how many i had cause she wrecked my net

heres a few on the fly pics
