Hey everyone.

I maaaayy be buying a drilled 200 gallon tank that has internal overflows in both back corners. My question is, [I love my FX5] can i plug these to continue my canister use? And can the black overflow pieces be removed?

Thanks again!

I wouldn't recommend it, but yes, it can be done. They should have bulkheads in place. Just put a PVC cap in the bulkheads, and cut out the overflow box with a razor blade.

what he said ^ lol but personally, i would utilize them and make a sump. cant go wrong with extra filtration.

Id just go with a sump. I recently picked up a 90 thats drilled and was thinking about hooking up my Fx5 to it because the pipes that go through the bottom would fit an Fx5 hose. But im just gonna do a sump if i ever decide to set the tank up.

50-55 gallon tank, return pump rated for around 1000 gph with headloss, filter socks, media and some kind of plumbing. You can use spaflex or rigid PVC.

Drain lines run from the bulkheads in the overflows through socks, into the sump. Returns run from the pump back up to the tank. Media sits between the two.

How many holes do you have in each overflow and is one larger than the other?

I have no idea because I haven't seen the tank yet. I just have a weird phobia about a wet dry flooding my house.

I thought the same thing. I was freaked out for the first month. My sump is a 75 gallon. I am also running a closed loop.
