Been kind of slow to figure out a heater cover solution and covered heaters are kind of expensive, I have so many heaters Id be a fool to buy more.... Any suggestions as to how I can cover my heaters? I have Marineland Visitherm and Visitherm Stealth heaters,My ray got burned on it a few nights back and Im wondering if this will forever leave A BURN MARK OR IF THIS WILL EVENTUALLY FADE...? :irked:

Just cover then with PVC that has holes drilled into it. Cheap and easy. Burns should heal but may scar.

Hmm ok. The burn only left a deep impression around the edges of the burn itself.. Didnt really pemetrate the flesh too much. Hopefully it wont be so bad.... I always thoughts that heating pvc around a heater may emit chemicals or something? Guess not? Im going to pick some pvc up before work....

Lots of people use the PVC approach. In a pinch I've just used multiple heater holders arranged around the heater and left the heater dangling loose. Worst approach is an uncovered heater attached to a holder that's suctioned onto the glass.

But a heater gaurd they cost no more than $6 that's not expensive

If your ray has a burn sort it out fast as rays seam to go back to the heater

Look on eBay I never understand why people never go there 1st you can find anything just use the says search world eBay

Rays just should not get burned, this is basic ray keeping husbandry. I don't mean to flame you but this needs to be rays keeping 101.

Covered heaters are a fraction of the feeding costs and purchase costs of a ray and the health of the rays in our captivity is paramount.

Why skimp out on something so cheap???? I don't get it..
You must know uncovered heaters will burn a ray.... So why let it happen.
How many heaters do u have ?
Hope your rays don't get burned again, especially that nice looking one in your avatar.

Interpet sell one on eBay . Only$6.5 bucks.

The PVC sleeve would also help contain the explosion when that stealth heater blows-up. Or your could just return the slealth heater, since they have a recall on them.

If you want to be proactive in the healing process pick up two things and your local supermarket: Noxzema (yes the face cleaner) and liquid Vit E (in gel cap form works). Daily, lift the burned part out of the water, coat it with the vitamin E and then cover it with a small amount of Noxzema. The Vit E will help the wound heal and the Noxzema will keep it clean. I've used this on everything from burns and cuts to post surgury wound cleaning on rays and sharks. It works very well.
