HELP Ray BURN from Heater

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
to tell the truth when i had no sump i used the hydo efhi 300w intine heaters

i run them for 5 years with no problems

you just cut the return pipe of your exturnal heart put the heater in job done this wont work on a crappy fx5 as they have the crappy pond ribbed hose

the inline heater are great as they move the warm water around your tank better than having all the warm water trapped in a pvc pipe

Heater guards are cheap and you can get them anywhere. Screw the DIY ones as you may not do it right and burn out your heater. Just google Fluval or tronic heater guards and they can be order online. They come in various sizes and ones that even fit my 300 watt ebo's!

T1,
PVC doesn't trap in heat. Most of the heat rises and comes out the top and holes are drilled (I used a miter saw) throughout to allow for water flow. Store bought guards are fine but many people already have pvc sitting around.

Healed quite nicely at this point I can only see the outline as a lighter color than the rest of the ray tho at times the burn area is slightly off in color to the rest of the ray.

Didnt do anything but extra water changes than usual and adding aquarium salt.

I KNOW the bare heater was a NO-NO but I saw the ray for a steal and had to get it. The funds just werent there at the time of purchase to buy other heaters and I honestly slacked on making a cover for the two weeks as I had bad experiences with teacup rays in the past so I wasnt trying to get my hopes up .

It was NOT the stealth heaters that caused it. was actually a visitherm heater. Have since made a pvc cover BUT i hate the way it looks Looking into an inline heater.

Heater guards are cheap and they come with suckers to stick to the side glass

I can understand DIY if your saving hundreds of $$$$ but $6 come on why bother and they look better than some hacked up bit of pipe

If you think you don't have to worry about the stealth heater your wrong. I have a retic that got a burn on a stealth heater. So you know it healed and did leave a scar. And every time someone said what happened I had to tell them the story that makes me look like a bad care giver. I since bought a hydor 300W inline that is on the hose coming out of my canister. I have had it on my 180 gal for 2 years with no problems and it heats it to where I want it.
