HELP RD and Jag acting weird

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah i just went to Petland and got my water tested they used the liquid kit Ammonia is low and pH is also low, but they said it might be a parasite so i bought Tetra Parasite guard, hopefully this works ( I am thinking its some sort of parasite, because when they do swim they scratch themselves on the gravel.)

"low" does not work, you need to buy your own kit and post numbers. I can't imagine anyone keeping cichlids and not having means to test their water regularly at home. petland/petsmart/petco employees are absolutely clueless and that's the last place you wanna go get advice on anything fish related.

Ammonia needs to be 0, not "low", nitrites also need to be 0... nitrates between 0-25ppm is the recommended, tho fish can handle up to 50 ppm for short periods of time.

"low pH"... what the hell does that even mean? is it 5? extremely low pH can also cause cloudy eye.

Medicating your tank without knowing what your fish have or what you're doing can do more harm than good, especially if they're already weak and stressed.

Avoid meds @ all costs.
Heat & salt is usually the best bet, unless it's an absolute emergency I stay away from meds.
You can get NLS with garlic infused.
It's anti parasitic & will purge any parasites that may be living in you fish.
Salt help with cleaning out you fish too.

Learn from this, & QT your fish.
It's a careless mistake, & something I mos def learned from.
That's the best thing about our hobby.
There's always something new to learn about.

I agree. Currently treating my whole tank for Ich thanks to a single clown loach that I was too lazy to quarantine. Now I regret it.

My cichlids seem to have made it they started swimming around yesterday only thing is they wont eat, even the RDs fav crickets they just look at them and swim away? will this change? my RD has turned into a softy after the illness.
