Help red devil with eye gowths!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it could be a combination of things. my water qaulity is not the best my ammonia is at 2-3ppm. my nitrite is at .25ppm. and my nitrate is at 5ppm (all of these parramiters are impove by this point)

also i got an old power head from a freind and just droped it in my tank without washing it. All of this adds up to be stupid newbie mistakes.

in that small of tank you need to really really make sure the water is good, especialy with a fish that big. I know you know this now but just so you know lol. Over feeding is easy too in a tank that small and a big fish. Have you been doing water changes right now with stress coat and such? Any salt, have yu used all the meds you showed in the vid or are you just showing you have those?

well Im not saying to do everything other than at least do the water changing. Hopefully when you fill your tank back up you use water that is as close to the same temp as the water in the tank, not just freezing water from the hose. Also that you use stress coat of some type.

WHich of the meds have you used so far and what state as far as meds is your tank right now, know what I mean, is it still in the middle of a med cycle? And which med?

Sorry bud I wish I could help you more but Im just asking stuff so others can get right to the point when they show up for you.

The first thing you NEED to do, is up your water changes!!! 50% a month? Come on. Those water changes need to be weekly- and maybe daily at this point.

What is your tank size and filtration?

I would not treat for the next 2-3 days. Do 50% water changes for those 3 days. Add PRIME. Do not feed for this time either. (Fish can go 10+ days without food, so no harm with 3 days).

Then you will want to start with salt. It's 1 cup per 100 gallons. This will salt the water to .3%, which is the healing percentage for salt with fish.

You should have asked for help when this first started to happen.

It does look like pop-eye, however this particular malady can have multiple causes and is generally a manifestation of a desease, not the desease itself. Usually its caused by Aeromonas or Pseudomonas bacteria and is basically fluid building behind the eye.
I agree with other posts in this thread: you need to get your water parameters under control, no reason to dump meds in the tank when you have both ammonia and nitrites. Mineralization is another important subject: What is your Kh and more importantly Gh?
Insofar as treatment you need an antibiotic to treat most eye infections, however without knowing for a fact which bacteria is at work here, it's hard to be sure which one. Both Aeromonas or Pseudomonas are gram negative and can be treated with Erythromycin or a Kanamycin/Nitrofurazone.
You can also try medicated baths in a mix of methylene blue and salt, but you will need a separate smaller tank for that.

it's no wonder he's i'll if your ammonia is at 2-3ppm you need regular water changes to get it down.
i would be doing at least 50% daily to get it under control and then about 50% weekly :)
