This shady ban is just a smaller HR669. After they get done banning all constrictors whats next? This is definitely not the blanket bill we need. There needs to regulation, but not a blind ban. Contact your congressman, sign petitions, and raise awareness. I have attached a link to the petition to help stop this bill. It's up to us.

What were the other 5 species that got dropped from the ban?

Reticulated pythons, green anacondas, Boa constrictor, DeSchauensee’s anacondas, and Beni anacondas. Of those five, only two are really kept in large numbers (retics and boas) with the remainder being kept by few, if any, keepers. I only know one person who breeds green and yellow anacondas, and I don't know of anyone who keeps the other two anaconda species.

Is the reason for banning these because they are commonly kept large constrictors? I mean... I'm sure there are numerous snake species kept privately that could do ecological damage over different parts of the states? If the problem is burmese in south florida and they've banned more than just burmese countrywide, the powers that be must be doing it on the grounds that they are potential ecological threat species? Just happens that they've moved against popular large boids.... whole thing looks very wishy washy from the outside, with no real clear aims, with a poorly defined/executed action plan. Then again im not that well read on the subject so maybe I'm wrong.

It's extremely poorly executed based on "scientific" data that doesn't hold up at all and has been referred to as junk science by multiple legitimate sources; furthermore, their "study" was found to be based on averages rather than averages and extremes, and a legitimate study found their predictions to be false. These snakes were already under control in Florida when it came to people being able to buy them because one needed a permit to acquire the snake, and said snake would have to be micro-chipped. It's just an example of the evils of HSUS & PETA, and how they basically bought this ban with lobbyists.

wait boas where banned? The thing about this ban is its only on imports right??? has no real impact on the trade just elevates prices for the domestic breeders right? No requirement of papers etc. You could feasibly get one illegally and once you have it you are in the clear legally. such a strange law it almost appears as if it was written to not to accomplish a damn thing deliberately.

I can't explain my hate for pita in actual words. They are the most obscene hypocritical organization ever conceived. I can't even get into my hate for them. If you want to understand google peta or peta kills. And that isn't even the worst of it.

No, boas are not banned yet; they're going after them soon, though. They apparently couldn't get those five other species on there because it would apparently cause too much economic damage, so they need two separate laws/bills/B.S. governmental policies.

The ban is on importation and interstate transportation; the transportation part is the kicker because it kills the mail-order business for these snakes and will certainly hurt the major breeders of the four species that were banned.

One could illegally transport one of those snakes to another state but doing so would be a violation of the Lacey Act resulting in major fines and jail time. Just to give you an idea of how ridiculous it is, you would get less jail time for killing Michael Jackson (four years; will be released after two years) than if you were caught transporting a single Burmese python across state lines (five years).
