Out Back In The Woods!
Purchased 6 Hyrbids Fri and put them in the tank doing great tried to feed them everyday Pellets, Bloodworms, Shrimp, Talapia but only a few fish would eat and the ones who ate only ate 1 time the whole weekend woke up this mornin and had lost 2 of the smaller ones what can i do to prevent anymore fish loss???

Tank Overview just in case anyone ask's.. 55 Gal grow out PH is high 7.6 got something comin in this week to lower it, Ammonia was @ 2ppm as of yesterday.. Did a 50% water Change yesterday drain half tank Poured in Ammonia Remover, Quick Start, Stress Coat then refilled w/ water from the hose from the well... Quick start is Nitrifying Bacteria, stress coat treats tap water and replinshes slime coat.. have a powerhead 175 gph, and regular hang on back walmart filter which came with the tank.. using carbon and filter pad in the filter.. tank is heated to 74 to 76*F constant..

Some may disagree but our go to move when our babies won't eat is always feeders. They can always be weened off 'em once they're healthy and eating. We like minnows from our local bait shop better than goldfish or rosies. Good luck!!!!!

adding all those chems like stresscoat is pointless and a waste of $$ cuz the carbons gonna absorb it up! Lose the carbon, keep up on everyother day 30% wc ammonia is very toxic to fish. Imo u should have waited a few weeks to cycle. Next step is to grab a fw master test kit, knowing the levels of amm nitrite nitrate is essential for a healthy fish and i wouldnt mess with YOUR PH, fish cannot tolerate sudden swings in water chemistry like that, they will appreciate a constant ph of 7.6.

Stress is one of the main causes of sickness in a fish, temp, water quality aggression space etc all have an impact on these guys! Also u didnt mention u had any bio media! Ur bb needs a home so go buy some ceramic rings at ur lfs and thros them in after the filter pad

Workin on A DIY Filter waitin on Pond Matrix and other Chems to come in... got 2 layers of jap matt then onto pot scrubbies, another jap matt then pond Matrix another jap matt bio glass another jap matt chemipure final layer of jap matt then heater...

The fish should come in AFTER your filter is finished and seeded...

To be honest, go to the store you bought these fish from, ask them to HOLD them for you, and then finish your setup, seed it and then take the fish back. Any money they are going to charge is going to be much less than the chemicals etc you are going to spend trying to keep the fish alive while you work on your filter.

What is your filter currently? You said your bio material is not even here.

I placed 5 pot scrubbies in the hang on filter... For Some bio filtration used shrimp to kinda jump start the ammonia cycle did lots of water changes over the 2 weeks i kno it not the best filtration... but i asked for help with fish not eating... I appreciate the tips on the tank cycling but i have a 500 gallon indoor pond that is up and running for the last 2 yrs fine but never had any fish less the 8" before these are the first this small so im learning..
