Help Sex My R/D

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Pretty sure o> is male. I'm not an expert on venting these fish so im still not going to take a guess. However, I think it looks more like o> than oO.

And to anyone saying there is some kind of physical differences other than venting or seeing the tube... Stop lying lol. Any physical differences that may have existed are a thing of the past. Midevils are so unpredictable in terms of physical appearance that sexual dimorphism doesn't exist.

Sorry Francis. I've seen too many female midevils with giant nuchal humps to know that midevils don't look male or female.

You cannot ever sex a Midas/RD/Midevil by just looking at them. Will never work 100%! I got males with no humps with females with big hump. I just let them lay eggs only way I know for certain. They're not like other cichlids with dorsal spots and what not like flowerhorn with a huge kok.

I suck at venting everything looks the same with me. I let them pair off or ill put a known male in a tank and if I suspect the unknown fish is a female I'll let them together and if they spawn I'll know its a female and if they don't within a few months or try to kill each other i'll assume both are male.

I had this one big Midas who would tell me the sex within seconds into his tank. Any female that was 4" + he would try to spawn with right away even a flowerhorn. If its a male even at 4" he would try to kill him ASAP. Thats how I did it but I ended up selling my Midas he got to 15.5" and just got too mean and wouldn't allow any tankmates except for females.

Well then, that's the last time i try to sex a Midevil.
Still think it looks Female though.

Just wait until their papilla is swollen like a little pea down there sometimes it's huge like an anteaters snout lol

Ummm, you sure that's not a loose scale or something, i think he's a bit too young to be strutting his stuff yet but that's generally what it looks like. If by some chance that really is all him then John Holmes might be an appropriate name for him.

Definitely not a scale. First appeared yesterday and it is bigger today. He doesn't have a name yet so I may consider John Holmes.
