I don't think I will need to change that much water. I am running an AquaTop CF400uv.

it is a common thought that more filtration well handle a higher bio load, this is not true, while it will convert the higher bio it will not releave the nitrate build up, x amount of ammonia= x amount of nitrite= x amount of nitrate, nitrate tell you when to do water changes, with proper bio filtration ammonia and nitrite well be 0. the only way to remove nitrate is by water changes,

you want to keep that at under 20 ppm on the average, again on average through out a week, hitting 23 or so on water change day not a problem, but on the average 20 ppm.

So she/he has the blue beard sometimes but not all the time..... I'm not totally convinced. Here is another picture

Looks like a female to me. Nothing wrong with a 55 gallon for her as long as there aren't other large cichlid tankmates. And pops is right about filtration not being a replacement for waterchanges, but still, 2x 90% a week won't be necessary imo. More like 1x40% depending on tankmates. She looks like a nice fish

Thank you. She was sold to me by the lfs as a Texas Cichlid. But I just knew that wasn't right. She has 2 other Cichlid tank mates just for now while they are small.

Yup, definitely not a texas cichlid haha. What other kinds of cichlids is she with? Certain small SA cichlids would probably be okay with her, but if they are larger species it may not be a good permanent home for all of them
