Common pond snails will only eat a plant if the plant is dying/dead otherwise they will just clean them off.
Exactly.:iagree:

Get a puffer.
Don't waste your time getting a puffer just to eliminate the snails. There is nothing wrong with the snails crawling around your tank. It takes an overfeeding to make quite a number of them and you have to face and correct it. Besides, not all puffers are compatible with other species.;)

also, you can get some clown loach.. they will eat them up clean.

Well I don't mind them so much as long as they don't eat my plants. I have around 15 or so snails, and I am aware that I may have been overfeeding a bit. I've cut back. Thanks for all the replies.

15 that you are aware of...if you only knew :nilly:

I remember my first snail and was wow that is cool I wonder how I can get more, then one night I turned the light on after being out a couple of hours and well lets say I no longer was interested in getting any more. That is until I saw these awesome snails labeled as Mystery snails.

Snails breed quickly, however, they REQUIRE an abundance of food to become an infestation.

It's not kind to buy a fish just to clean up your snails. Especially since a fish like a loach will gorge himself on them and probably end up stressed and dying afterwards due to the lack of readily available and preferred food.

To contain a snail outbreak just cut your daily feedings in half and watch the snail population decline. It won't bother your fish much.

Ok I'm starting to get a bit freaked out. I was just observing my tank and there are a ton of snail eggs... and I mean a ton! I don't mind a few snails, but it is starting to get out of control. I can't bring myself to kill them though.
