HELP SNAIL PROBLEM!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just ease back on the feeding remove uneaten food after a couple of mins and they will level out to the amount of available food.

The thing about snails that I have observed is that they don't really seem to contribute a whole lot to bio-load so if there is a bunch of them it's not as bad as it would seem. But I wouldn't use any type of snail pesticide as it will cause them to die all at once and throw your tank out of wack.

As far as eggs you can find just remove them, they will normally be found on the underside of leaves and decorations. Or you can just leave them and do as above and they will just like the rest of the snails level out.

I'm planning on doing a water change tomorrow and I'll try to get rid of as many snail egg slime as I can. As suggested, I have cut down on the amount of food. So things should start to calm down.

When I saw all the eggs, I started to freak out thinking about all the snails that would be taking over my tank.... even though this whole mess is kinda my fault. I do appreciate all the hard work they do in cleaning up, so I don't want to get rid of them entirely. Plus like I said before, I could never bring myself to kill them.

You can always offer the extra snails for shipping at a shipping fee only. Many members in Aquariacentral.com are looking for more "pest" snails to keep their assassin snails well fed, etc.

Yeah, selling the snails is a great idea. One easy way to get them is to blanch a cucumber slice or piece of lettuce, tie it to a piece of string and just let it hang on the bottom of you r tank for like an hour or so and then take it out. It should be almost completely covered in snails. Then you can throw 'em in a box and ship them off for cash.

no need to blanch it... lil buggers will surf their way across the surface to get to floating food
