The last month or so , i have an invasion of snails in my 160 gallon planted tank and it seems like it's getting worse every day. what do i need to do to get rid of them?

Clown Loach, Yo Yo Loach and a few others are good for snail control, but it takes time and you might have to limit your feeding to encourage them to eat the snails and not fish food. Clown and other loaches may also eat very small fish. Right now I have a snail problem in a tank of Endlers Livebearers and Least Killifish (Midget Livebearers) and really can't use a loach since they would eat the fry.

Since you have planted tank you might also try changing the water chemistry to much softer and mineral free water by slowly adding more RO or DI water when doing water changes (don't use pure RO, this may harm the fish). Then try to keep the pH around 6 or so. This may interfere with the snails ability to get enough calcium from the water to make their shells. I had snails disappear form a tank by doing this. Can't do it with the Livebearers unfortunately as they like hard water.
