Help stock a 125-150 gallon

Yeah man, that would be a good stock. I do think you'd be better off with one heterospilus, if you end up with a breeding pair they might decide the 125 is just theirs.

Alright. In all likelihood this stock is probably a year off as I'll be purchasing them as juveniles and they'll be growing up together in the 125-150 once i get it and trouble makers will be rehomed. I just needed to know a good stock to shoot for.

Ornates are my favorite but wasn't sure if they got too big for a 125-150. Senegals are the most common i've seen around here...are those too large?

Senegals only get to about 12", ornates can get up closer to 2' long. I had a big (around 18") ornate in a 125 before, it was an okay size for him. They cruise around pretty slowly. Really awesome fish, I miss mine. I would recommend one, they work very well with CA/SA cichlids

A senegal would definitely work, as mentioned they are one of the smaller bichirs out there. What they lack in coloration (as opposed to the Ornate) is that they are very active and swim around a lot.

So this is just for knowledge on my part. Side you guys indicated ornate bichirs would be ok in a 125... The fact that those tasks are only 18 inches deep doesn't mean a 18+ inch ornate bichir wouldn't be too large?

they are so long and slinky that mine was usually not stretched straight out. IMO a 125 is an okay size for one. Bigger is obviously always better. But my guy did not seem cramped at all. Also, keep in mind that they take a few years to put on size, very slow growers.

So with the aforementioned stock, is there one (senegal vs ornate) that would be better than the other?

Is it true most tank bread bichirs can and will eat pellets and other foods? I'm not one to invest in live foods and only do frozen foods as treats.
