Good luck with the angelfish, I still can’t positive sex mine and they are over a year old. I know I def have two males and that’s about it haha

what rams are you going with? I’m Not familiar with the Bolivians

for Germans the female has a pink or slightly pink belly, males have the elongated 2nd dorsal ray

Vals, crypts, anubias, swords are all good starters

My gravel substrate won't bother and fish or plants, right? I had bought this tank used with gravel and had decided to keep it. It is black/brown with little natural bright orange looking bits and smells odd. Kind of metallic but stinky. Ideas on what it could be? Also released a bunch of red power/cloudiness into the tank when I put I stirred it up.

I personally don’t like to use second hand sand/gravel. I never know how it was care for or what micro organisms are still living it in.

I would bite the bullet and get new.

If I were to use the second hand gravel I would Wash and dry it out until bone dry.

Alright sounds good thank. Also how would I test to make sure my tank is habitable and that fish would survive without putting and of my stock at risk?

I’m assuming you know how to cycle your tank and how to test the water.

I’m assuming your questioning about if anything is living in the gravel, I’m unaware of how to test that...maybe wait for someone more knowledgeable in that area. That’s why I tend to err on the conservative side and use only new sand.
