Help Sunken belly L-18

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have 2 L-018s. Try fresh cucumber ( Larger ones and do not peel and do not take the middle or the seeds out ) Cut a piece in half and with a fork or something ( I have screwcumber, very useful, can buy on Ebay) sink to the bottom. I also tried holding clips with suction cups attached to the glass and they were not interested.

My L-18s smell the cucumber in a second and are out eating them.

I had previously tried with zucchini, lettuce, sweet potatoes, peas ( deshelled ) and their favorite is cucumber by far. They also love the Hikari algae wafers as one of the members mentioned earlier.

Hope this helps.

Great tip, ive herd that before but wasnt sure if it was a neccesity, but ill grab some tomorrow forsure.

Ohw, that indeed a neccesity, they need the rasped wood to digest any food they consume.
Very important!:)
My plecos rasp of large parts of the wood.
I took this piece out of my tank this week and it shows the rasped off parts pretty clear.

Sad news it had died over night, we did the cucumber and wafers just not the driftwood, we were gonig to do that today and none seemed to work, Im so upset , not only did it cost alot but it was so beautiful. The lfs are a bunch of jerks for given not enough information. We will try again though now that i have had great advice from other MFKers.

if it died within the warranty or 1week guarantee or whatever, then you could return it and gtet another one.

Well this one lfs we go to doesnt do warranty, I know its one place you shouldnt buy from but their fish are always good when we get them and they always last. We did go to the one next door first cause they do warranty but they didnt have the nuggets. Lesson learned i guess but we will try again.

The one time I had success with an L18, it was stuffing itself with sinking hikari pellets (algae wafer and sinking cichlid gold) and was also loving the chopped up market shrimp.

Never touched the veggies

golden nuggets require protein in their diet- thats probably why it starved...they're "grazers" in the wild- they sift thru organic stuff to find protein as they eat dead things in the river as well as veggie matter- but not ALAGE stuff they're yucky to them.

on the other hand it could have a bug within it. who knows.

should have fed it bloodworms or shrimp- I would have told you to immediately go and get bloodworms and offer it thru a pipette next to its mouth. It's just up to the golden's perference as each individual is different however protien would have been crucial.
