[HELP] Tank NOT cycling

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
won't a big water change when I see nitrate remove htem all and i'll have to cycle again?
And how would I clean my filter then?

Do i have to leave my bio balls and ceremic rings in aquarium water at all times? When should I clean my marineland c-530

So right now I should do a 30%-50% water change everytime i see 2.0 ppm of ammonia correct?

How long do you think it will take for it to reach nitrites =[

thankyou for all your help I will update you and I won't let you down! Lets cycle this tank woooooo

Yay! We can do it!

No, the big water change will only temporarily reduce their food supply causing them to shut down until ammonia rises again, which you won't see because they will consume it accordingly. Once they are established, they will be able to adapt to changes in the tank to a pretty great degree. The only problem now is that they simply aren't there yet.

Well, for now it will probably be easiest to leave you biological media (bioballs, ceramic, etc.) submerged, but you should also consider going wet-dry with them eventually to increase the filtering capacity of your bacterial colony. But for now, you can just keep them wet, but it's best to keep them stored after the mechanical filtration so they don't clog.

well, my canister filter is the marineland c-530, search it up, its really really really big lol, and really expensive, I paid 300-400 for it

So when I do the water change for the nitrate levels to go down to 0? because the nitrates are all in the bioballs right, i get it, so when I do a water change, nitrates at still there, but i reduce it? so i'll read a bit even if i do a big water change?

Also, you said my best bet is to find a friend with an established tank,
I found a friend with one, he said he'd talk to me more about it tomorrow,
I went to his house before, he has like a 10-40 gallon tank or something he has like fish, it's established and stuff so should I ask him for the filter pads or something media? Or can I get him to squeeze the water out of it and put it in a plastic bag, he lives close by so he can quickly drive here in 5 mins or less, so i can seed my tank

but the thing is, would that be enough to seed my tank?
Do you think how much is enough? A cup of it?

I don't know hwo to seed so please tell me how :D
But note that since you told me to keep my ammonia to 1.0 ppm which it is right now, when i put the established media/water in there, theres a bit of ammonia not too much, so I hope it can do?

Glad you got a canister. I hear they do a great job and have pretty low maintenance. I've only used HOB's mostly, but I just built my first ghetto sump recently.

NitrAtes do not live on the bioballs, nitrifying bacteria do. NitrAtes are the last waste product of the nitrogen cycle that you remove with water changes. They will probably never be 0, and if they are, check your ammonia levels because that's a warning sign that your nitrifyers (the bacteris) may have died.

At 1.0ppm, your system should be a fine home for introduced bacteria from another tank. I'd take as much as you can, or as much as your friend will give you without putting his own tank at risk. The more the merrier. It will make a big ugly cloud for a few minutes, but will quickly find its way into your filter where it will establish itself.

I could also use this: http://naturbac.com/
Super bac instantly establishes your tank using live nitrifying bacteria o.o

Don't use products to cycle please!! :nilly:

OK OK, where in Canada are you?? I'll take the AC110 or Fluval 405 off my 75 gal and you can borrow it for a few weeks to seed your tank... wait, I might need them for the 150 I'm buying??:D

ok,
but have you seen this it's at my local fish store and they said its live bacteria and you will see nitrates in 2 hours or 2 days because its all nitromousdoifjshf and nitrobacter that eats ammonia which turns into nitrite? and they eat the nitrite and turns it into nitrate this proccess takes a few hours to 48 hours?

http://naturbac.com/

click on nitrifying bacteria section and read the stuff mroe more more
they explain a lot, and its recommended by this really big chain BIG AL'S company I used to go there a lot, they said they use it to instantly cycle their tank and fish

A video here says that infinity tanks used a bottle to instantly cycle a tank and put fish in it RIGHT away they saw no ammonia or nitrite spike and it established the filter JUST like that :WHOA:

Ah, too bad. I live in Winnipeg. I usually go to Vancouver about once a year.. I really should move to BC. Sorry I can't help you!

dang, I guess

Btw just did a water test

Ammonia 2.0 ppm
pH is 6.9 ppm
nitrite 0 ppm
\

I'm doing the water change in the afternoon today

P.S anyone please check my other post, should I get superbac
