Help To Bring Asian Aros Back To The US...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
now its onto cloning eh? its not as easy as it sound to clone fishes

Its a lot harder (not harder) its just that our technology cant clone fish yet ^^

^^

According to what source? I don't mean to call you out, but if they could clone a tadpole in 1952 I'd bet they could clone a fish today. Plus, they've already cloned koi from unnucleated goldfish's eggs, which is basically what they could do with Asian Aros (unnucleate the eggs of legal aros, prob. jars since they're more like Asians than silvers). Now, I'm not seriously saying they should do this, but it IS possible.

You talk the government into funding asian arowana cloning projects for fish hobbyists. When they say yes let me know, I'll pick one up.

In the mean time, I'll be playing the California state lottery so I can buy a house in Canada for no other reason then to keep asian arowanas.

We'll see which happens first! lol jk

P.S.
See if you can get them to clone FW rays in Cali also! haha

Lulz. Yeah, I'm aware it's not very likely, I was just pointing out the possibility. I just wanted to hop on the bandwagon with all the outrageous suggestions. On a more serious note, I'm sure there are private institutions that would be willing to fund such a project, you'd just have to present it in a way that would convince them that it's a worthwhile venture.

To be entirely honest, I don't care if we ever get Asian aros here until I get my first silver. I'm working on getting the funds together, but I don't know where in this apartment I could ever fit a tank big enough to house anything that big. What's a girl to do?

PS If you do win the lotto, let me know. I'd like a house too, and I'm sure we could work something out. :naughty:

Just kidding.

I don't think the clones would be any different than captive bred fish honestly. The point of proving that it's a clone vs a wild fish would still be an issue.

I don't know that the law is up to date on cloning, but you'd still have to claim it as a Scleropages Formosus, which is still illegal in all it's forms. Red, Silver, Green, Pink, Polka Dot, zebra striped or whatever.

Permitting is the only answer. We're still working on it. Things still look promising, but we've still got a long way to go. We're hoping for summer next year, but I'm still pessimistic.

I spent 3 months in the Philippines. Asians of all sizes and colors are easy to get there. Most come from Indonesia with the rest coming from Thailand. Some come with micro-chips and authenticity certificates from the breeder proving they were captive raised. The U.S. is funny! In my understanding, if the animal or fish is endangered and on the Cites list it is OK to have and buy one as long as it came from a registered breeder in the U.S. and came with the documents that prove it, but if it's outside of the U.S. it's "illegal". What's up with that?? !!

i would like to see them here but my beef right now is with savethearo website i jioned up and posted a bit and no one has worte anything back so far

nothing has been wrote at allsince my input if they are trying to save the aros then why not check your boards and post ? ? ? ?
