  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
But, a lifted ban will result in breeding operations starting up in the US. So, the prices will eventually level off and/or taper off as available specimen numbers increase.

a big breeding project of asian aros in the US will take years to sort out look how long is has taken to sort out captive bred rays and they are not even banned in the US

even if the ban was lifted tommorow you are still looking at about 5yrs before asian aros will be for sale in the US at reasonable prices

All good points. I've discussed this point in private with some other members, but initially, (first year and possibly two) the permits will be limited until it's proven an effective measure. In the 1,2 or even 3 years it takes for it to get sorted out, the people interested in breeding will have started it and could be close within 4 or 5 years when a potential full blown commercialization in the US would take place.

Also, one other tactic that's on the table is requiring any Asian breeder wishing to export to the US to donate funds to conservation. It could be per fish or lump sum, but the point is that the supply could end up coming from one or two farms, thus reducing the overall pressure on supplies throughout Asia.

I've been patient for over 30 years. What's another 5?

the thing is the ban is not being lifted tommorow so you will have to wait alot longer than 5yrs :D

its a case of people always want what they cant have

when their was lots of leopoldi/henlei rays about how many people actualy brought them now they are expencive and hard to get hold of everyone wants them

i think people should stop moaning about getting asian aros in the US and be happy with what you can get

guns are not leagle hear in the UK but you dont see us make patitions or web site to lift the ban

the ban on asian aros is in the US for a reason not just to piss fishkeepers off just like rays and snakeheads are banned in some states

Thanks. This isn't about whining for something we can't have. It's about trying to save the fish via the hobby. If someone didn't attempt this, then nobody is doing anything to help save the fish. I'd like to not loose focus that the main objective here is to try to help fuel the conservation efforts.

Trying to step up here and possibly encourage other countries to do the same.

And actually, there is no good reason why they're banned here other than our government has stricter laws on wildlife than most other places in the world.

How will it help conservation efforts... did i miss something? Thought this was about fishkeeping?

you're kidding right? You read the savethearowana.com website? People in the US will pay a permit fee that will be directly donated to the Asian Arowana fund at Conservation International.

Blindly making statements are we?

buy lifting the ban in the US do you realy think that will help the wild population of asian aros how ? :screwy:

you think that US farms will realease their fish back into the wild the asian farms are years ahead yet they dont relase any aros back into the wild

why would you need to save the asian aro acording to some other posts hear they are not even endanger in the wild anymore

as far as i can see people want the ban lifted so the fishkeepers/hobbyist can buy the asian aro nothing else

as far as i can see the asian farms have done enought to save the asian aro but you still think the trade needs the help of the US
