As everyone else is saying your problem is down to bad water and a failed filter. The most important thing to remember in this hobby is we keep water, if you get that right the fish bit is easy.

Do yourself a favour and buy some form of testing equipment. The best type are the liquid tests, you don't need to go mad and buy the big expensive kits with all the tests in but you should have at least two individual kits; Ammonia - (NH3) and Nitrate (NO3). I would go for one of the big brands like SERA or API or JBL.

If you really cant afford even the two individuals then but a multi test strip again from one of the big brands.

In the mean time, stop feeding, do little water changes, like 10% every day and watch you fish. Do this for a week. Then try feeding every other day a small amount for another week. If you can get it buy some Tetra Safestart or Seachem Stability. Personally I prefer Safestart and have used it very successfully for some years.

However I cant stress enough how much easier this situation would be to deal with if you bought some test kits and posted you readings.

I hope this helps a little.

you need to post exactly how you handled moving your filters & the media inside them.
an uncycled tank can be deadly, but if your filter was setup with a whole bunch of dead organic material inside, that would pump large amount of toxins into the tank. even worse than just having uncycled conditions.

I put the filter in a little bucket (with no water)

What should I do?

Do you have any experience with the bacterial cycle stuff?
I don't see EXACT details in your reply.
you moved "halfway across the country".
How long was the filter off?
How many tanks, what size tanks, what fish and their size are in each tank?
Did the media dry out? sounds like it did, =dead media+ rotten organic load.
If media dried out it died. did you clean out the filter before restarting? If yes, all you did was put fish in uncycled tank.
If NOT, & you just restarted the filter(s), then they pumped a big load of toxins right in to a tank with NO ability to even handle the fish if filter & water had started out clean. Dead filter media must be cleaned, THEN re-seeded. Seeding is not enough for that.

SeaChem Stability works if used correctly. Read the thread on it.

This.

As said.

The filter was in a bucket WITHOUT WATER for 2 days.

I have 1 55g fish tank that now has 2 blood parrots 2 pink convicts

2 blue botia loaches

1 geophagus jurupari

1 pet smart "red Texas" (I had it identified on this website as a rose queen) but I am not sure

1 panda Cory catfish

1 black skirt tetra

2 silver dollars

1 synodontis catfish
And 1 albino bristlenose pleco.

I am not positive but I don't think I washed the filter out before putting it on the tank.

The media did dry out

Should I clean the filter out and buy some seaChem and put it in the tank? It has been 9-10 days that the filter has been running.

Once the tank is cycled with the stability bacteria would natural bacteria take over? Or does the stability stay in the bio material?

I would clean out the filter & start the tank over again with fresh water, Prime & Stability.

You didn't post what kind of filter, or the media it's loaded with. All the dead filter sludge needs to be removed.
You 'might' be able to rinse everything good enough with plain water.
If not, then replace the media.

If you have no access to healthy established filter media, use Stability. Yes, It seeds your filtration with BB. Follow the instructions.

It is pretty essential to have an API Freshwater Master Test Kit on hand for things like this. without those readings everyone just has to guess at what condition your tank water is in.
