HELP!!! Very Odd Acting Ray

Massive water change? Sorry bro but i disagree...little by little would be safer IMO
 
Like I said.. More Aeration!!

The bubbles accumulating on the top show me lack of aeration, and possible bad water quality!!
 
I live in the Netherlands and the water over here has a very good quality. I don't know the water in the States. I have a 2000 liter tank and refresch around 1000of it every week. I use a good water conditioner. I fill my tank directly from the tap and ad the water conditioner. I also have breeded discus in he past and young discus had a 100% water change every day.
On the ansjovis part I give this evry month but wash it very well. The reason I give it it is a salty fish and salt is good for the intestens of your ray.
But the key point is, this is not normal behaviour for a ray ( a few minutes ok but not for longer periods ) . But he did a water change and gave ansjovis for the first time. So one of the two is the reason his ray is acting strange. I think it is something in the water. That is why I adviced a water change.

Your water has bubbles on top of it which can usually be a bad sign.. I would keep preforming small frequent water changes. Maybe add some aquarium salt.

Also, get the surface of your water moving, lots of oxygen. If the tank has lots of tankmates, and even possible amounts of wastes, your dissolved oxygen levels could be low. Add plenty of oxygen and see how the ray reacts.

If this is a consistant thing, it might not be good. Make sure you check your water paramaters often, especially for stability.

*Edit: Just noticed you said your pH was low.. It might have crashed due to acids (fish waste) in the water. If your alkalinity is low, your pH will be more susceptible to crashes like this, so you might need a product to 'buffer' your alkalinity and hold it steady. Stability and consistancy is key with the ray, make sure your tap water and tank water match up.. Do more small frequent water changes.

So bubbles that float around for a second or two is a bad sign? Or should they pop automatically when hitting the surface?

Heres the update guyz, lowered the temp for more oxygen, did a 50% water change, and added some salt last night and the entire tank is doing much better. :clap The ray is no longer floating, (even thou it was freakin cool), and he is eating red worms! :headbang2 Since the only different thing i did was feed it anchovies, im guessing that they were super oily and the water quality went really bad really fast. :swear:

I will do another 75% change again tonight.

I also wanted to thank everybody who helped me figure this situation out! Sorry if i was freaked out alittle, its VERY hard to get a ray where I live if ya know what I mean :naughty:

Great Development ! but how come i missed the part where you fed anchovies?
am i not reading right?? I only read the anchovy part from Frank (itaituba ) ...

I almost $H!t a brick when I saw her floating at the top of my tank! She was just floating there at the top with her disc arched staring at me! She did this for about a solid minute! She's doing it again right now as im typing!!! Her freaking eyes are even above the water and her "nostrils" are taking in some air. Only differrent thing I did today was a water change about 7 hours ago. I also feed her anchovies today for the first time today.
Anybody ever see a ray do this before? Any thoughts? Should I be worried?
