Help: What to do with a 14"x10" Pacu?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well the people talking about eating Mr. Pacu didn't bother me, just surprised me that the website dedicated to massive fish and the owners would talk about it :p lol. If anyone on here does want him he could be yours, just its a big fish and shipping would be expensive. Also I might look into the fish clubs but as of right now I do not know of any in my area but I'm sure they are there. If all comes to fail I could make him a pond, lol haha, to bad winter is coming soon or it'd be really easy.

To build a tank all you would need is the glass or other suitable material, and a silicone sealant to seal the peices of glass together, making sure waterproof, then putting a metal frame around the edges of the tank, household glass won't work, it has to be tempered for strength.

How would you build one ?
with wood and screws. check out the DIY (do it yourself) section. theres lots of plans and ideas in there with pics. its easy. and much cheaper. i dont even know why that guy said that about a stand tho because this thread has nothing to do with him needing a stand.

pacus are mighty tasty:Pikachu:

lol i was just thinking the same thing. if any of my big fish die from non liness related deaths thats where there going to end up...

is there a bass pro shop or a cabelas near you? most of them have large displays maby they will take him.

I have a Pacu myself, but I'm not currently looking to get rid of him, however if I was, I can only imagine how challenging that it might be. I'd post on craigslist, and if you're lucky, maybe somebody there, or here on mfk might want him.

just letting you know so you cant say you were never told, but you can and probably will get very sick for eating any ornamental fish. the foods and medicines that you use on your pet fish can not be used on fish that is food.

Most public aquariums and pet shops turn big fish down all the time. Sometimes you just have to humanily dispose of them. One of many fish there is no place to go with when they do what they do best, grow. Indoor pools are possible but few people can or afford or are willing to go that route. Next time we see Pacu at Petsmart or other stores we should just shake our head and move on.

"FOOD??" inquires the cave man.
"FOOD" smiles the cave man.
no need to cook it, just pretend your Gollum haha

on a more reasonable note, yes ornamental fish are absolutely NOT meant to be eaten, unless you are the real Gollum, because it will hurt you. if you are the real Gollum, congratulations on being able to afford a computer.

i think a fish of that size can handle a 3.5 hour drive to the zoo just fine. bait stores sell those little aerator thingys that plug into your car's cigarette lighter. get one of those and a big cooler :)
