help wheels turning and it hurts!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
OMG! Your back yard has grown an EAR! EEEEK! :D Just kidding, although that one picture does make it look kind of like an ear...

Looking awesome man! I love the hardscaping of the dirt around the pond... I wish I'd taken more time to do some of that myself.

Did you decide to do a layer of mortar because of the hedgehog problem? That definitely makes the price shoot up there...

Can't wait to see more progress, and glad to see this hasn't disappeared into the depths of MFK forever!

small update, it's been really hot and I haven't been motivated to work, monsoons are coming in though and the overcast has been helping.

note that these are all 45's instead of 90's. this is to restrict head loss and actually saved me on the amount of trenching I needed to do.

next is putting caps on the ends for now, filling the tenches back in and then it's chicken wire time.

piping buried and chicken wire up on everything but the skimmer/filter area I also mortared the bottom of the pond while I was at it, Pics a bit later.

Sweet! Can't wait to see the progress. I wish I'd taken a little more time and done a bottom drain on my pond... but it's worked out well anyways.

here's the pics,

I haven't wired the filterbox/skimmer yest as I want to see how far the mortar will go first. I also only went to 1 inch on the bottom so that I can do 1 inch onthe sides next and then finish it all off. I will of course have to score the sides when applying the first inch to make sure the second inch will hold.

This was my other project for the weekend, a few weeks back we got back from vacation to find our A/c was pumping hot air into the house, all the fish were fine but apparently at the same time the primary pump on my 125g setup with 45g sump stopped working, some water has dripped onto the bottom of the stand when the overflow for the sump took the excess outside, this cause mold to form in the heat.

So my 125g's stand is ruined. So this weekend I put my 125g on top with my 100g on bottom and fashioned a 2" overflow from extra pond material. it's working well thus far and now that i only hve the 1 indoor system, I can focus more on the pond.

progress has been slow and my stack of mortar is dwindling, gonna have to get more.

but I'd say 1/2-2/3's coverage for the first layer, hoping to get the rest with the 6 bags I have left then all i would need is the top coat bags.

hopefully should be looking at an operational date of 8/20 or so. Once the mortar is done everything else is quick.

Wow, somebodies gonna have a blast tearing that thing out of the ground in10-15 years... :)

Looking good! Are you going to be coating the mortar with anything for waterproofing, or just leaving it bare?

I'll be using a 45mil epdm liner for the waterproofing. The mortar is for hedgehog proofing. lol.

Ah. I was trying to figure out why all the mortar if your other pond was lined. I didn't realize burrowing animals were a threat to man-made ponds in your area lol.
