Help with 2 clownknives

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Also, watch the tsn for aggression towards the ck, or interest even. I've heard horror stories of people's large cats eating same sized knife fishes. :jaw:

I agree with the replys your getting.

First, the tank is too small, I am looking to upgrade my 90 gallon at some point because of its 18" width. A 48x24 footprint is the minimum I would recommend for a growing clown.

Don't add anything else to the take except for maybe some snails to clean up any smaller food bits.

Your clown will most likely eat only after the lights are off, I didn't even see mine until 1.5- 2 weeks after I got it, I saw it eat for the first time 2.5 weeks after owning it. frozen silverside fish and beefheart are staples, as none of my fish really care for pellets...These are stubborn/timid creatures.

If your clown has to move later do to living arrangements, consider getting a smaller species, like an African or asian knife, they max out at 12-14".

Alright. Yeah, my guys have been swimming around and are slowly eating the rosie reds. They eat only at night when no one is around. Thankfully, there are no signs of aggression. I have raised both of these guys since they were babies, granted though, they weren't in the same tank. With that being said about not using feeders as a regular diet, if I leave beefheart or bloodworms or krills overnight, will that raise my ammonia levels enough to cause the fish distress? This is what has been on my mind cuz I've left food in their, specifically spots at which they hide and I went upstairs for an hour, came back and it was still there.

starving and suppling only dead food might work...

They eat dead? All the fish I've taken care would leave the dead ones for me to take out or they would eat part of the feeder and let it rise to the filter. Then again, They werent starving.

try it. It may work, or it may not. It depends on the fish!

I know I need a bigger tank but I wanted to start off small and then work my way up. Not to mention, I have a problem buying fish, impulse buying and then returning them lol. With what everybody is saying, my fish will be around a foot in a year. I still cant get them to eat anything but feeders and I dont want to starve them. They may grow more with massivore pellets and krill or other foods, but im not concerned with them getting huge right now. Now, seeing all the fish people are raising, I decided I wanted to get a red tail catfish and royal pleco and put all four fish ( 1 clownknive, 1 tsn, 1 red tail catfish, and royal pleco) in the same tank. Not my 46gallon! but a much larger one down the road. I want to upgrade in a year or so. If u were me and wanted to have all those fish in the same tank, what size tank would u pick? I was looking at them online and I think a 500gallon would be good. Thanks

500 is good but remember - the bigger, the better!

So....what, 600,700? Im going to be getting this tank in a year so I can save up now. I actually might just build one. This will be my last tank for these guys so I want to do it right. But I'll start another tank for new fish down the road :)
