Some mollies can live in SW for a very long time. I know a guy (he is a total tool) but he keeps mollies in pure SW. I dont get it. There are so many great SW fish and he wants to have sailfins.

LIVE SAND WILL NOT GIVE YOU AN INSTANTLY CYCLED TANK. YOU PAY MORE MONEY, FOR WORSE SAND, AND IT COMES DIRTY, WHICH CYCLES YOUR TANK. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS LIVE SAND.

This is the new disclaimer I am going to start putting on anything that comes CLOSE to looking like anyone is talking about live sand. Dont do it. My .02

I think I may follow suit.

i have seen black mollies thrive and breed in salt. alot of guys here use then to cycle or in there sumps for feeders.
n chill man. when i say live sand i mean the caribsea sand. i think its called agra-live or somethin.
im not saying it will instantly cycle my tank just better than dry dead beach sand.
also i will have an algea filter on this tank so supposedly it gets rid of the cycling process completely. and grows sworms of copes. so maybe the mandarin is possible :) we will see tho. some say that they have to get treatments to get rid of copes they have soo many on there algea filter

Just be sure to shake (gently) the copepods off of your ATS screen, either into the sump fuge or the display tank before you go and clean it.

ok will do :) thanks guys!
ok to the sand thing.... the caribsea is live or no?
what is this over prices junk you speak of ?

Do not buy live sand that comes in bags. Some people get livesand direct from the ocean...and that may have its merits. Live sand in a bag is a waste of money.

i have only seen sand in bags.... please explain what exactly i should get or need please.
i am still a noob on substrates for salt tanks

The best part about live sand is that it has all the the sand critters in it. These might live long enough in shipped sand to survive, but in a closed environment like a bag their lives are limited. Greatly.
