I currently have a 48x24x18in tank that does not have substrate yet(I'm willing do bare-bottom if I need to)and I have no clue what to stock it with. I am leaning toward cichlids but I also want something unique in one way or another. I can't decide whether to do a biotope, a community, or a cichlid tank. Also, I don't want to have to grow out or upgrade my tank for any fish.

Red or gold wolf.
Various puffers.
Yellowjacket or rtm cichlid.
Flowerhorn
Green terror
Dempsey
Carpintis
Small piranha school
Exodons
Polys

Ok, I have only heard of fh, green terrors, jds, and the exodons so I will need to do a lot of research and decide but thanks for the ideas. Also, I thought piranhas needed a much bigger tank?

You could keep 3 red bellies in there. They are lazy.
Only about 10-12 inches, so no larger than some of the larger cichlids that can be housed there.

Shoal of exodons? Like active piranhas that stay 3-5 inches.

Cichlids are the best for activity plus interesting behavior.
Either 1 big guy (or a pair) plus dithers or a community of smaller cichlids would be very fun.

But, a lot of cichlids are big enough to eat most dithers which I'm going to assume are tetras or peaceful barbs.

Best dithers are giant danios, Aussie rainbows, larger tetras, and livebearers.
Swordtails make great dithers for CA cichlids.
Most of the dithers are very fast and avoid getting eaten by most cichlids. Any cichlid that can fit in the 75 (except parachromis) can do fine with especially swordtails.

Also, I probably won't be able to house any cold water fish because the temperature in my house is almost always above 80f during summer and I don't want to buy a chiller.
