Hard water I would go for a Central American or an andinoacara (blue acara, gt, etc.) because they are from hard, alkaline water.
Actually a stalsbergi green terror would be cool. Much rarer than the rivulatus but far meaner.

You may want to find out the parameters of your tap water, before buying fish.
Parameters like pH, water hardness, alkalinity
For example
if you have soft, low pH water (7or below), the South American fish from the Amazon area might work.
If your pH in neutral, and only moderately hard, fish from west of the Andes like GTs will work.
If your pH is 7.5 and above and hard, some of the smaller Central Americans, or rift lake Africans would work in that size tank.
Success or failure is often determined by tailoring your fish choices, to the you have.

My ph is about 7.4 so I might do a pair of gts, but I doubt I will be able to have dithers.

I’d give it a try with dithers. It looks really good when it works out. I would say Aussie rainbows or giant danios because they are nice and cheap, so not too bad worst case scenario. They would be fine at least until the gt hits around 10 inches, which takes years and may never happen.

PH does not determine the hardness of your water. Some folks with a PH above 8 have really soft water, which means a low GH value.

Check your water report about how hard the water from tap is.

Also, a single (male) Green Terror with Buenos Aires tetras (10+) as dithers would be okay

You could have dithers with both, alone or in a pair. It helps strengthen the pair bond to chase something that isn’t themselves. If you plan on breeding for profit don’t keep them with the pair though.

My hardness test caps out at 18 dkh so idk the exact hardness but it is atleast that.

Also, I don't intend to breed them, just if I do end up with fry I will prob sell them because gts tend to take care of the fry.
