I purchased a black aro almost a month ago, and noticed it had some fin damage. I raised the temp and used some salt figuring that it would heal. Over time it was actually getting worse, and could now see the spines behind the tail. I medicated with maracyn, and on the 4th day no improvement. Also as of today I noticed a small pimple-ulcer looking thing on its side. Some input please...

I cant get pics now, but water is good, no ammonia, no2-ok, no3-ok, ph 7ish(7.2-7.4)and he is alone. I planned on putting him in a 120 wide with a few other fish, but when I saw the fins I put him in a 55 to heal and grow out a bit. Filtration, the 55 has 2 penguin 330's

Looks like some parasite internal infection.. Wait till someone with experience to answer this.. Hope he gets better..

mmmm not sure but i think its normal for black aros to have spines on the dorsal fin?
Maybe you can try to ask someone to take the picture and post for you? it would really help to diagnose the problem.

Maybe tail/fin rot, hard to say without pics

these were the best pics I could get he is too damn fast...
on the top pic the thing that worries me the most is that sore about 2niches behind is eye.
the bottom pic shows how frayed and how much fin he is missing... at the very tip of his tail you can actually see the spines. on the bottom fin there is little to no color left.
sorry for the lame pics. Hope this will help.
