help with dither fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, my tank is full of juvies, nothing over 4.5". I got the albino ones as they add a lot of color to a tank that has black sand w/a black background.

Working well right now - might not down the road, but it might work...we'll see.

odessa barbs is a new one....i don't think i have seen them around tho, but since they get up to about 4 inch they seem like they would be big enough

i jus got 12 odessa barbs and now i have 4. im in the same boat as you man. i want dithers but everything is a snack now. jus like u said my 80 gal is too small for SD and tinfoils so ive been thinkin of going w/ rainbow fish too..... but like everyones saying, eventually anything you get will be food. jus have fun w/ what you get but dont get attached. atleast u wont have to feed as much when the massacre begins lol.

try giant danios but im amazed your EBJD is toughening it out with the other big boys

I got albino tiger barbs when petsmart was having a sell and they were $1 each. So I wouldn't feel too terrible if any became a snack. Rainbows in my area are going for $15.99+ a piece. :(

i know a lot of the time ebjd are rather fragile but mine is def the boss of the tank. it helps that he is twice the size of the others and that he was the first one in the tank. and i'm sure that eventually the texas or gt might try to take over, but right now they don't even attempt to mess with him

Aqualoon - usually tiger barbs here are pretty cheap, almost always have a sale for like 3 for $6 or something, so really wouldn't be too big of a loss if something happened. and yea rainbows here are about the same price ($15-$20)

In my 20 gallon long aquarium, I have 6 tiger barbs as dithers. When I first got my firemouth, he was really, really scared of me, and hid nearly all the time. He only came out when the lights were off. Since I got the tiger barbs, he's out much, much more.
