Help with dying fish?

He looks very skinny, with sunken belly.

Anti-parasitic meds would be in order right away. Expel P (Levamisole) and General Cure/Paracleanse (Praziquantel and Metronidazole) would be a good first step.

Also, getting him to eat by soaking some food in Garlic Guard should be a priority. I generally like bloodworms or krill in this scenario.

I ordered some general cure, it’ll be at my home in 4 days. Do you think he’ll make it that long?

Prazi will at least increase hunger. Will he live? Chances may be low.

Definitely suggest some meds as Q quikv6 mentioned. Is it eating at all?

I rescued 2 of them, they were returned to a fish store, there is a larger one that is doing fine, responding well, eating shrimp whenever I throw it in the tank, and his stomach is filling up. I am confident that he will make it. The smaller one is the one pictured. He has been eating shrimp and bloodworms periodically, but isn’t darting for food and when he eats will only eat a tiny bit at a time. I’ll put some pictures

S=smaller tarpon
L=larger tarpon
Circles is the larger one popping, I’m pretty sure that it’s a sign of internal parasite. They are both having white stringy poop like that.

I can't say whether he'd make it or not. Just try to get him eating, and ensure he is swallowing it. If he isn't, Flubendazole is the only med I have had success with in the case of parasitic spitting).

Garlic guard is really helpful. It is good to have meds on hand. If you can make it out to a big box store/LFS, they usually stock General Cure. You can definitely save 4 days that way....and maybe save the fish.

Dude, I wish I could, but there is 24 inches of snow where I am, so by the time the roads clear and the stores reopen, it will be about the same time as it will take for the package to come. They are eating, any tips to slow down parasites so the fish can make it? A tarpon is a fish that I’ve really wanted for a very long time, I’ve been looking for a year now and these are the only 2 that I’ve seen!
