hello I have a large freshwater eel in my 75 gal tank not sure what kind he is and I want to know if there is anything I need to be feeding it. I feed everyone in my tank flakes, shrimp pellets, and treats such as bloodworms, and freeze dried shrimp. I also put some lettuce in there sometimes for my silver dollar and anyone who wants some. Please post some pics of your eels so I can tell what kind it is. It is Brown with little yellow fleks. thanks

Most eels will eat frozen bloodworms, brineshrimp, and beef heart. When I had my fire eels, I gave them a mixture of a couple things, like bloodworms and brine shrimp, or bloodworms and krill, or krill and beef heart. And I would spot feed them with a large clear tube, so the mixture goes to the bottom, and isn't spread around the tank by the filters. I would thaw them out in a small bowl or cup, mix them well, and pour down the tube. Sometimes the eel will go up the tube to meet the food as well.

I'm pretty sure your's isn't a fire eel by the description you gave. Not sure what yours is.
Plus, Fire Eels can get to 40 inches.

most eels won't eat pellets but will eat frozen foods like bloodworms brine shrimp glassworms and other frozen foods big eels will eat shrimp night crawlers and fish

here is mine, the "Freshwater" Moray

Ive also had a peacok eel...

If it looks like what I have in the first pic, then it really needs a brackish setup not freshwater. I feed him salad shrimp, stuff you can get at wal mart, squid, ghost shrimp, feeders, stuff like that

yes thats what i have and I do have salt in my aquarium. He eats just fine. I have tried frozen blood worms and he loves them. I will try fresh worms too. are the night crawlers that i can get from a bait shop OK?

yes useually there okay from a bait shop for that eel try pieces of fish or shrimp as well as worms they do need a good amount of salt about 1/4 cup per 5 gallons

My 2 guys - Murray and Morey like freeze dried shrimp, frozen shrimp, and silver sides (look like frozen minnows).

One thing about mine - they like to eat every other day and still make me feed them every day!

Only one eel will eat each day :grinno:
