Not to be a total smarty pants but
7. 90-95% of all algae related issues are due to improper use of CO2.

8. 90-95% of all algae problems are related to improper use of CO2.
There is a good reason to repeat this because folks will forget and blame the nutrient dosing method(and this issue is not limited to just EI, every other dosing routine has the same issues).

sweet baby jesus. adding plants to a tank causes ammonia problems??? :duh:  :nilly: that was the last straw for me. your posts are so full of bad information, i can no longer take you seriously. i'm sorry. this is just ridiculous. i saw the videos of your tanks, they are beautiful. i honestly dont know how you did it because there are so much mis-information in what you post
OMG how did decipher what I said adding plants causes ammonia build up. I said adding plants helps keep ammonia from building up. Cause plants will consume this nutrient. You only think its mis-information cause you only understand what you think you read. You laugh at what I said about filteration. You only think its mechanical but its biological again you only think its silly cause things need to be explained to you in detail

UV light in the canister will not affect your Bio filter unless the bio media is exposed to the light, ie a cracked compartment wall. UV sterilizer will only kill bacteria and algae in the water column.
How is it not exposed to the light. when I turn on the UV light I see it shine out around the media. The water does not have to be in direct contact to the bulb if UV light is emitting on the media inside the canister.

alrighty then. its obvious you dont understand biological filtration. if you did, you would know that beneficial bacteria does not float around in your water column. it's anchored to your filter media, in your substate, on surfaces, but it doesnt just float around. jesus man where do you get your information from? :screwy:

the UV light was only used for a week or so, to rid my tank of green water. after that it was never used. UV lights are widely used, in aquarium and massive facilities. they must not know what theyre doing right? :screwy: how are their fish still alive? because according to you, theyre killing all their good bacteria by using UV lights. why arent thousands of dollars in high-end koi not dying right before our eyes? because you have no clue what youre saying, thats why :)
UV light used correctly should be somewhere away from your biological filter. But lets get back to the original question. You said 4 T5HO bulbs grew algae and showed us a picture. Then showed us a picture of how it grew after removing 2 bulbs. You never said anything else as to nutrients levels or anything else that obviously caused your green water. I just made a point that running 4 T5HO bulbs will not give you green water alone. I just don't want mis-information put out there just saying 4 bulbs made my tank green.

Then something is wrong with the filter design. If it's shining the UV light on the media then yes it would kill the BB. I've never seen a filter do that.

i never mentioned anything else because if you read what i said earlier, i said NOTHING ELSE BESIDES THE LIGHTING CHANGED. whats so hard to understand about that? my co2 rate, my EI dosing, all that remained unchanged before and after the UV light. the only thing that changed was my lighting. anybody who knows planted tanks will tell you that 216w of T5HO lighting over a 55g will tell you that it's too much. period. end of story. there's nothing else to discuss here.

do you have links/pics of this filter? because that sounds totally wrong.
