Help with Eheim Pro 3

I cant remove the co2 reactor without cutting off the tubing as I have the ties on it. But I see where you are coming from. The problem likely is connected to the reactor as the first couple of day I had it running without the reactor quite well. The reason for the existence of this filter is to add co2 and heat water along with filtering it. But for trouble shooting it would have been nice to cut open the co2 reactor out. May be that will be my next step. Cut the tubing connecting it and remove it.

hello ,
have you tried remove all the media an try running from there.. or see if the impeller spins??

As suggested above try removing the media and check.

Also check that if there is any flow in the tubes just after the filter is started. You can check that by putting a flash light behind the tubes. Normally I have this problem if the filter chocks.

Also if one intake is not sucking, try constricting intake tube of the other intake. This makes the filter suck from the other tube and all the air expelled.

Open the filter and start the filter for a second or two to see if the impeller rotates.

Eheim instructs not to prime the filter when the drop shaped cavity inside the filter is full of water.

Hope above helps.

Had exactly the same problem but only with a used unit that's been dry for a little while. When you take it apart check the seating of the rubber around the impeller housing. If you have a leak there the system will not work. I took some unscented petroleum jelly and rubbed down the rubber ring after removing it. Put the unit back together up filled it completely (requires a few gallons) through the intakes, then it started right up. Make sure to drain the return line completely before you start to refill the filter as bubbles can get trapped below the reactor.

Did anyone have the problem of water spilling through the sides even though the clamp was on? It happened the last time I tilted the filter to remove it. massive mess inside the cabinet.

Yeah this has happened to me for two reasons. The external seal is bad due to wear or mis-alignment. The water left at the top of the filter when the hose is disconnected.

I have this problem everytime I take my pro 3 apart for maintenance.

The way I sort it is as follows.

1 Makes sure the canister is empty of water
2 I then put a bucket under the quick connector thingy and open the valve and check it is siphoning water fine.
3 Start the siphon manually if there is no flow coming from the intake tubes.
4 Close off the connector again and reconnect it to the cannister.
5 Open the valve and allow the canister to prime itself.
6 Once water has stopped flowing into the canister then turn it on.

If no luck then try removing some on the media and repeat.

You can just cut the ties off, instead of cutting the tubing. Just put a temporary barbed union fitting in.

It sounds like the reactor installation is the problem, even though you stated you initially ran the filter with minimal media.

Please keep us updated on what you do.

Have you tried this before taking off the reactor?

With the valve on the filter closed, fill up both intake lines from the caps then close them tightly but not so tight. Drain the return line and lift off the return nozzles above the water and open the valve. See if water flows into the filter. If not, there is a blockage somewhere. If water flows, then wait till you see it rising up the return. If you can still keep the nozzles above the water line and aim the nozzles back into the tank then start the filter.

It works everytime for me with a Pro II and I never use the priming feature.

Or maybe the caps on your intake setup are leaking as you mentioned presence of air in the lines?

Despite my best efforts I could not get this filter to work with my co2 reactor. I took out the reactor and the filter started to work quite well. One of the pipes filled up and had to stop that pipe to get the other intake also to work.

I will now have to find ways to get the co2 in.

Thank you guys for all the advice. I probably will not be connecting the co2 reactor unless you guys can come up with some way.
