If I were you.. I would Feed Live until 4-6" then train onto the Frozen non live.. It is MUCH safer. In my opinion.. Mainly because it has been noted and ignored that you have not succeeded AT ALL with non live food... So Find a way to get the guppies til the Cichla is large enough to eat larger foods.. When they are 4-6" minimum start working them off of live if you so choose.

But ignoring that you are not succeeding with frozen and non live will help continue the deaths in your tank. Cichla are piscivores and when young should be fed accordingly. As they are fragile and prone to allot more than just ich.. Temp above 82 and better yet 86-87will pretty much solve your ich problem.

These fish are born with the instinct to eat live fish.. I big part of the initial growth spurt has allot to do with the food you chose.. They should take Frozen bloodworms and live guppies from 2-4 inches... And depending on the attitude they usually stop eating frozen for a minute..

But this is NOT a Problem..

You would be smart to invest in some Azoo Arowana sticks as well.. Cichla seem to take sticks faster than pellets.
