Thats pic looks like my payara. but thinner. I will try and take a pic of it.

How small was the enclosed area? & will a 5" poly retropinnis be safe with a 5" Payara?:confused::confused:

a 5 inch payara will not eat anything above 2 inches IME.

1/4 of my 75G tank

1ft across o.o

probly wasn't the fish to buy without knowing anything about it. but good luck with it!!!!!! they are amazing fish. whenever i added new ones to my group i would put in a divider to keep them separated, so they can adjust and calm down on their own terms, and find food easier without having to compete right away. then once they seemed to be feeding readily id let them in with everyone else. just dont try to overdo it on the food size because you want to see something cool, lol. you need to try small feeder guppies/mollies/platties. he should start to take them out at night. rosy reds and goldfish might look like to much to a 5" freaked out payara.

Can anyone tell me why they eat so little... My Payara is thin compared to the pics I've been seeing posted.
Please help Identify the kind of Payara...

That may be a raph. i hope one of the pro's chimes in with better info. Outside of the TAT/scomb/armatus i am unsure. But i am pretty sure it is not one of those 3. And they do not eat alot like a cichlid for example. My tat's eat very little maybe a 3'' shiner minnow a day. My last scombs ate more and they wold consume a few small guppies a day like 3-4. And thats about it. It takes soem time for them to settle in and start eating. They stress very easily. One of my TAT's did not eat for a couple of weeks. when he was new.

its a cynodon gibbus.
theyre always looking skinny.
and they eat very little as well.
they are extremely picky about their surroundings and small spaces cause them to freak out and not eat.
not very easy fish to keep.
